The year certainly feels like it’s speeding by – the snowdrops are out and the sun is appearing more regularly. All good. And we’ve been busy too…. Architects Networking

Thanks to all who came along to our Networking brunch at the BFI, great to meet you all in person! These architects are now able to join productions – Supervising Art Directors please note, if you are on a film that is paying into the Film Skills Fund, a percentage of these architects’ salary can be covered for up to 10 weeks. It’s a way of helping them get production experience at limited cost to the department. For more info please contact us at info@talkingpointfilm.co.uk

Props Training

We welcomed the latest group of Props trainees this week, all of whom have different skills that the industry will benefit from. We will spend the next 5 weeks working with them so that they have a better idea of what to expect and what can be expected of them – they can start their first jobs more prepared and knowledgable, which means they will be useful to the team and succeed quickly. We look forward to working with them all.

TOP TIP This month, we hear from Storeman Jonny Ames (Back to Black, Empire of Light, Enola Holmes 2) who has passed on a really valuable point for anyone visiting the Props Store on a job. “Say Hi! Introduce yourself - tell me who you are and what you’ve come for; if you’re dropping something off make sure you know where it’s come from and what it’s for. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, of anyone, and make sure you know the facts for the task you are undertaking.” Art dept and Set Dec Assistants take note! Makes complete sense. (and he’s not the only Storesperson we have heard this from!) THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING

  • The BFDG Awards – a great night out celebrating everything that is good in the Art Dept. Huge congratulations to the winners (especially our mentors on the Cyrano, The Batman and Empire of Light teams).

  • We have been using two items recently that anyone who wears glasses will massively benefit from. Firstly, with a gentle nod of gratitude to Patrick Rolfe and Chris Wyatt... Peeps - the best glasses cleaner there is. This has them crystal clear in a mere moment

  • And more recently, via Lee Grumett, a magnetic glasses holder – which means the days of stretching them on your head are long gone! Simply clip them to your arm or chest. Game changers!
