Hope you have all had a chance to relax and enjoy the good weather and some sundowners over the last month. Lots more people are working and we are hearing of some sizeable projects coming up over Autumn which feels more positive. As always, if you are not working and need some support please do contact the Film and TV Charity who provide a range of services that can a real help.
WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO
NEW ENTRANT COURSES
We have been busy running a range of in person courses over the last month and have really enjoyed meeting so many new people, helping them make their first steps in the industry, whether they are graduates or career transferers. There is always great thought given to how many new entrants are supported when there has been a downturn in productions – but it is so important that we continue to build the foundations of the next generation of crew and ensure we have the talent to support all productions shooting in the UK, both domestic and those from inward investment.

INDUSTRY SESSIONS PROGRAMME
We are in the final stages of confirming our Industry Sessions programme for Autumn/Winter.
These Saturday morning Zoom sessions offer a great opportunity to listen and learn from established and experienced industry professionals. We either look at their work on a recent production or discuss a current challenge the department faced and the solutions they have found. Small, informal groups and peer to peer learning from the comfort of your own home – a great way to put a name to a face and do some networking with others working in film and tv drama. More information coming soon.
TOP TIP
This month’s top tip is a great one from Set Decorator Claire Richards (House of the Dragon Season 1 & 2) - and one that is regularly echoed by everyone working in this sector – “No matter how menial the task, get stuck in!” So important that all the jobs get done, no matter how small or boring – doing it with enthusiasm, a smile and good grace really helps you stand out too!
THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING
National Cinema Day is 31st August with tickets at all participating cinemas from £4. No excuse!
Not enjoying just yet – but looking forward to cinema releases in Autumn – yes, Summer has been all about Deadpool and Wolverine but there are some great big pictures heading our way and for lots of our trainees and mentees, their first big screen credit. Looking forward to Beetlejuice, Gladiator 2, Wicked and Paddington 3.
Plenty Flexisheets – This! Not only are these 50% longer, compostable and tubeless – each sheet splits into two half sheets. Perfect for moments when you simply don’t need a full one! Will honestly improve your work kitchen or domestic environment - Game changer!
