Hoping everyone has had some moments of relaxation over the last month – and are also busy on productions – the endless freelance balance!

WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO

We have been busy developing programmes for the next six months and hoping to get more of those started over the next month. As always, if there are any areas you or your team would benefit from training in please do let us know.

We had a London meet up of some of the Talking Point membership this month – always fun, great to hear how busy they all are and how they are making steps forward in their careers, whether that is first breaks or moving into more senior positions. Those that came are on/have been on House of the Dragon, Ted Lasso, Pride and Prejudice, Star Wars, Avengers, Ghostwriter, Neuromancer and Capital.

Those who completed the programme last year but struggled to get onto productions can also apply for a zoom Group Refresher session or a One to One session.

THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING

Photographer, filmmaker, Chair of Southbank Centre and Save the Children Ambassador Misan Harriman is currently exhibiting his work at Hope 93, London W1W8EF

The Purpose of Light bears witness to the injustices of the world, from Black Lives Matter and Grenfell to Sudan and Gaza. It also highlights our capacity for empathy and the idea that protest can create hope. It has been extended until October 2025.

Not something to enjoy necessarily – but National Cinema Day has been put on hold this year. Usually held end of August, it has been paused because of the growth in cinema admissions and “an exceptionally busy slate” for the remainder of the year. Which is something to enjoy! Great to see this sector of the industry getting back to where it was - there is apparently a more evolved event format being considered for next year!

Creative UK has published its paper outlining the vision for the newly announced Freelance Champion role in the UK Government. This role was created as part of this year’s Creative Industries Sector Plan and is designed to advocate for the sector’s creative freelancers. It will ensure that freelancers are given a proper voice, will propose modifications to financial services (ensuring freelancers are fairly assessed for mortgages, loans, pensions and credit) and create access to continued skills programmes. Very positive, necessary and long overdue step forward.

Ottolenghi has released 3 ice cream flavours at Waitrose which if you like ice cream are most definitely worth checking out. Delicious! Let us know what you think!
