We hope work is starting to pick up for everyone – we are certainly hearing of more and more productions talking to crew, so if you aren’t on something yet it hopefully won’t be too long.
WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO
PETTY CASH BUYING with THE CLASSIC PROP HIRE CO.
We had another great group at our Petty Cash Buying Course with The Classic Prop Hire Company. They looked at all aspects of the job, getting great advice from Assistant Buyer Jocelyn Puddephatt, spent time touring the new space and learning how to work with the bookers as well as working on their own project referencing , sourcing and presenting. We hope they get to put their new knowledge to use very soon and huge thanks as always to the team at Classic.
FLOWERS IN FILM with AMANDA WILLGRAVE
Film Florist Amanda Willgrave was our Industry Session guest this month and shared fascinating experiences from her recent productions including Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein and Hamnet. She also talked about the importance of relationships in the Art Department particularly with the Props teams, and what respectful collaboration looks like. It was insightful and inspirational all at once – thank you Amanda.

MENTORING NETWORK
We also completed this round of the TP Mentoring Network with our brunch in Brighton – another great group who are now more aware of how the industry operates, how the Art Dept teams work together, what to expect and what will be expected of them. They will be meeting their mentors over the next few weeks. We wish them luck with their next steps and look forward to seeing them again at the in-person networking event.

PROPS COURSE
We have confirmed our latest group of Props Trainees – thank you to everyone who took the time to apply. It was a very busy and competitive round and we are looking forward to starting the course next month. More on that to come!

THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING
We have been made aware of some thefts on studios and in car parks recently and one of our members directed us to these protective laptop covers.
Film Club is on our insta pages today – no spoilers but it’s guaranteed to mirror the sunshine and make you smile. Let us know there what you think!
Awards season is over – and to be honest, it’s a bit of relief – it felt relentless this year!
Huge congratulations to the very well deserved nominees – and all the teams we have worked with who were so rightly recognised. Beautiful work.
INDUSTRY TOP TIP
Learn to hear ’no’ positively - it is a helpful skill for building your own levels of resilience and creative process. “No” is not a given as a comment on your failings - it is usually the rejection of an approach or an idea. It can be useful - it can open the door for new ideas, new strategies and new ways of working.
How you react to hearing it dictates your response - take a moment to avoid feeling defensive, try to accept it (you are allowed to be frustrated or disappointed!) and then move forward positively. On to better things!
