There’s been good news in terms of government support for the Film and TV industry this month - the government’s Industrial Strategy White Paper and the Creative Industries Sector Plan, confirmed an increase in funding for Film and TV. £75m will be injected into the sector to develop skills, enable more co-productions and promote screen content. On top of this is an additional £150m investment for Mayoral Authorities to invest in film and tv production in their regions. All very positive.
There seem to be more productions up and running, some taking a little bit longer to get greenlit than expected and some frustratingly pressing pause – there is clearly still turbulence out there, but it’s certainly moving forward and will hopefully settle to a new normal soon.
WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO
David Thomas joined us for an Industry Session on Managing Finances for Freelancers – always a great session with lots of advice and guidance on how to thrive financially. David shares a lot of really useful information and templates on his website.
Kelsey Farish joined us for an Industry Session on the legalities of using AI on a film or tv drama productions and what the new EU AI Directive will mean for Art Departments. We scraped the surface of this conversation – it is an emerging and quickly evolving area – but very useful to understand what is legal and what is not at this point.
Helen was a guest at Filmbase’s lunchtime webinar on the State of the Industry, looking primarily at the aftermath of Trump’s tariff announcements. As we expected, there has been little further information on these but will update if and when we hear anything new.
COMING UP

Our next Industry Session will be examining the Art Department’s work on Marvel’s The Fantastic Four – First Steps. Set Decorator Jille Azis and Supervising Art Director Nick Gottschalk will join us to discuss the retro-futuristic design choices, the challenges they threw up and the solutions they found to meet them. Great opportunity to #learnfromthebest – submit your questions for Jille and Nick and network with peers after the Session.

Art Department, Set Decorating and Props training
We’ve secured funding to deliver more Art Dept training in Autumn/Winter 2025 and these courses will be at no cost to participants. We aim to deliver 50% of our programmes each year with no attendance fees, in order to widen access and remove any financial barriers to developing careers.
The first of these programmes will be for those looking to work in Set Decorating and Props – others will be aimed at those further on in their careers…..watch this space!
INDUSTRY TOP TIP
Lots of our trainees and more established members have just started new productions so we thought this would be a useful reminder.
Be seen, be respected, be remembered.
Simple but effective mantra for work. You need to be visible – noticed for doing good work and being enthusiastic (not hiding on a phone!), working in a positive and inclusive way that garners respect and then allows you to be remembered for all the right reasons. Make a good impression – get asked back.
THINGS WE HAVE BEEN ENJOYING
All the UK Art Department talent being recognised in the Emmy nominations – huge congratulations to all on Andor and Bridgerton. And so good to see so many TP mentors and alumni in there too!
And also good to see that Wake Up Dead Man - Knives Out Mystery and Hamnet are amongst the special presentations at Toronto and London Fim Festivals – very much looking forward to seeing our TP Member’s work on those films.
Summer nights call for sundowners and if you’re working/driving/being healthier this is top of the list at the moment - Botivo is a citrus botanical mixer –it goes brilliantly with lime juice and soda.
Perfect end of the day for when you need a clear head.
